H1N1: 67 deaths, is it just a number?

setiap kali smpi rumah, web pertama yg akan den bukak adalah http://h1n1.moh.gov.my. coz i wanted to know how many victims have died due to h1n1. semlm den balik ptg, dia tunjuk 64 org. hari ni den pulun wat kerja laju2, tak sabar nak balik rumah, sbb den nak tahu, dah berapa org lg mangsa. hari ni dah 67 org.. i am so speechless.. i cant even bring myself to curse. its so bloody frustrating.. nak berapa bnyk lg yg jadi korban b4 kerajaan can move their big arse and actually do something..? lets talk more about this is in a while..

but before that, i have a story to share..

kat skolah td, sorang akak ex-tukang sapu nih, bercerita. tentang seorang cikgu skolah kat satu daerah kat kb. dia kata, cikgu tu tgh sarat mengandung 8 bulan. skarang koma akibat h1n1. masa dia koma tu, pihak hospital minta kebenaran dari suaminya nak bedah isteri dia untuk keluarkan anak dr kandungan dia. sbb takut nyawa baby tu terancam.

so pihak keluarga lelaki setuju. si isteri@cikgu tu kena bedah, dan alhamdulillah, baby tu berjaya dilahirkan dgn selamat. yg sedihnya, cikgu tu masih dalam keadaan koma, and the probability for her to survive, is so slim. baby dia alhamdulillah, masuk dlm incubator. akak yg bercerita tu, tak pasti sama ada baby tu kena infect h1n1 atau tak. but i prayed, that baby tu dalam jagaan Allah..

do u guys remember sorang wanita kat Miri yang meninggal akibat h1n1 selepas 2 minggu melahirkan anak? it was so sad... she was so young.. berusia awal 20-an.. lepas dia meninggal, pihak hospital serahkan baby tu pada si ayah. now, can we all imagine how a man feels when he lost a wife, but in his hand, a baby without a mother? it was.. so... sad.

67 org. do we know what that numbers imply? do we understand what 67 deaths mean? are we fucking ignorant to understand that 67 is not just a number?

H1N1: hey leaders, just go eat shit.

Dimaklumkan sehingga 17 Ogos 2009 jam 9.00 pagi sejumlah 284 pesakit H1N1 sedang dirawat di wad dan 33 pesakit yang disahkan H1N1 sedang dirawat di Unit Rawatan Rapi (ICU) di seluruh negara. Daripada 33 kes yang sedang menerima di ICU, di dapati 17 kes mempunyai faktor risiko iaitu penyakit kronik (8), asma (3), obesiti (2), kecacatan otak (2), hamil (1) dan post-delivery (1).

Untuk makluman sebanyak 2 kematian telah dilaporkan. Maklumat mengenai kematian tersebut adalah seperti berikut: Seorang bayi lelaki berumur 7 bulan yang juga pengidap asma, dimasukkan ke ICU hospital pada 7/8/09 kerana demam, batuk dan sesak nafas selama 2 hari. Bayi tersebut telah mendapatkan rawatan di klinik swasta pada hari sebelumnya. Rawatan antiviral telah dimulakan pada 8/08/09 dan disahkan jangkitan H1N1 pada 12/08/09. Walau bagaimanapun, bayi tersebut telah meninggal dunia pada 15/8/09 disebabkan oleh severe pneumonia with acute respiratory failure.

Seorang wanita warga emas berumur 74 tahun yang mengidap diabetes dan kegagalan jantung (CCF) telah dimasukkan ke hospital pada 10/8/09 setelah didapati pengsan di rumahnya. Pesakit telah dilaporkan mengalami demam dan batuk sejak 8/8/09 (2 hari sebelum kemasukan ke hospital) dan rawatan antiviral telah dimulakan pada 11/8/09. Walau bagaimanapun beliau telah meninggal dunia pada 12.08.09 disebabkan oleh severe pneumonia. Kes telah disahkan positif influenza A(H1N1) pada 13/08/09.

the intruder : the aftermath

ada org tanya, ni citer hantu ke? actually no. ni takde kaitan dgn crita hantu. like, obviously, the intruder, right? in the morning, ramai cikgu2 bersidang, to discuss about what happened at the hostel. some ppl thot i was seeing 'ghost', some ppl thot it was fragments of my imagination, some ppl even thot it was my way of seeking glamor. which of course, utterly ridiculous. i was, in fact, already glamour. he he he...

the teachers discussed about the intruder. i was even questioned. the fact that, everybody was sleeping at that time was a big surprise. its like, not a single soul was awake. even all my friends, my roomates, all the others, were like, how come they were all sleeping when usually, saturday morning everybody wakes up early?

the ustaz told us that somebody put a curse. like 'pukau'. haa.. ada tok bomoh kot yg main pukau kat budak2 skolah. because, after thorough inspection, many students complained of missing things in the morning. and we were like, nasib baik dia curik barang jah. kalau dia kidnap atau buat benda dajjal kat kitorang tak ke haru?

now, bila ustaz tu cakap mcm tu, i tertanya-tanya... kenapa i sorang saja yg terjaga that nite? and, kenapa lelaki tu patah balik selepas kali pertama i ternampak dia? patut dia berambus je. kenapa lelaki tu tak serang bila dia nampak i? maybe, dia tak sangka 'pukau' dia menjadi, so dia datang balik nak tgk.. selepas insiden tu, ada jugak la beberapa malam den tak boleh tido. my eyes asik tgk pintu. as if takut lelaki tu datang balik. my roomates and pasang benang yang di sambung dgn tin2 cola, so bila pintu tu nak di buka, akan bunyi bising.. ok masalahnya bila nak pi toilet, kena la pantas membuka tali2 itu.. haha... my bro, kasik den kayu hoki suruh letak bawah katil. luckily, i never had any need to bash anyone's head with that.

it was a few days later that i begin to hear voice.. suara seorang perempuan.. suara dia lembut tapi sgt jelas.. selalu, sebelum i tido.. she whispered my name.. as if mulut dia betul2 dekat telinga... so close...

im running off into the darkness..

i couldnt see anything, it was dark. but i can hear the sound of my heart thundering against my chest. out of nowhere, for whatever reason it was.. i screamed.

i really screamed. i let out an ear piercing scream. it was about the loudest scream ever recorded by human i think. it was THE SCREAM. i mean, it was a really loud scream.

i screamed like i was a basket case, then i stopped. in few seconds, i heard voices of people. i heard the hostel coming alive. i heard people rushed to open their door. i heard loud footsteps.. i heard some people scream. they were scared. who wouldnt if they woke up to a scream so loud it woken up the whole hostel.

and no.. it wasnt just the girl hostel that woke up. my scream woke up the boys as well.
i was still alone in the darkness with my scream still ringin in my ears...
and later, i heard voices. male voices... suddenly, i was flooded by lights..

"WOIII!! DIA KAT SINI.. ROBIN!!! DAH JUMPA!!"

i looked up, to many familiar faces. oh no.. the seniors. i meant, the guys. the guys have entered the forbidden ground, the girl hostel, because of my scream... they were the upper six guys, all big guys, the cricket players and hockey players.. they surrounded me.. the scared stiff looking kid. i was sitting on the ground, hugging my knees, crying n sobbing silently....

then, someone took my hand. it was my bro. robin oliver patrick. not really my real bro, 'abang angkat' actually.

"V, ok.. jgn nangis.. its ok.. its ok... HEY, PANGGIL SUZANA!!"

i looked up again, and this time, i saw all of them have cricket bats in their hands. some have hockey sticks. few of them have jumped over the fence and searched the bushes. the others were wandering around the back looking for God-knows-what. next thing i know, cikgu pian arrived. he said he heard someone scream from his flat. and i was like, did i just scream so loud that it can be heard across the football field and some 400 metres away not to
mention that the teachers flat is on top of a hill?

ok, defintely THE SCREAM.

cikgu pian quickly assembled the guys, and the girls were told to stay in their dorm for awhile until all clearance are given..oh and the guys? they didnt wear anything except shorts. it was getting uncomfortable and a little bit crowded..and to be honest, it wasnt really comforting to be surrounded by half naked boys. if i wasnt so distracted by my crying, i might have told them to go put some clothes. because, some notti girls have made giggling sounds when they saw the guys with no shirt on.

what happened next, is not important.. as u can already guess, i became famous (not that i wasnt famous b4..hehe) but i can tell you, for sure, what really happened that night, it was black magic of the highest level..not many people ever tried that and succeed...

i do solemnly swear, that this is true story, according to my best recollection of what happened years ago.. read carefully...

it was a night, when i was still a 'kid', 14 years old to be exact, form 2 student, and yes, it was a night like no other night. it was a friday night. tomorrow is saturday, usually, saturday morning, its our weekly inspection. its when the prefects and wardens go into each rooms and inspect everything, ur locker, beds, rooms etc. usually, a night like this, everybody tend to sleep late and wake up as early as 3am in the morning to do lots of cleaning.
every dorm wants to look its best.

i woke up about 3.30am. my other roomates were still sleeping. never mind, i'll wake them up later. i took few hangers, few pairs of school uniforms, and an iron, then went downstairs. our room is on the first floor. ironing room is on the ground floor at the opposite block.

as i walked down the corridor, i noticed one thing. its weird. the hostel is dead silent. no one is awake except me. all doors are closed. its so weird. usually, by this time, almost everybody is awake.. i didnt think much about it. as i passed the surau, i switched on all the lights because it was dark. next, as i passed the 'tv room', i switched on all the lights again. i entered the ironing room, next to the tv room.

i ironed all my pairs n tidy up a bit. then, i stepped out of the room. as i walked out of the ironing room, i have this very weird feeling again, as if something is so definitely not right.. like something bad is happening.. i can feel it in my bones.. i slowed down in front of the tv room, and i looked up to my dorm..

i saw a man.

i saw a man walked out of my dorm... he walked straight out, heading towards the stairs. i stood frozen, i cant move, i just watched him. he walked down, until he reached the corner of the surau. then, he suddenly stop, n turned around.

then he saw me.....

he just stood there and looked at me. and i.. did nothing, i just stood frozen like a statue and stare at him. he wore black shorts, with no shirt. his chest was bare, but he got this black cloth covering his head. he didnt wear slipper or shoes.. his skin was fair, he was about 6 feet tall and lanky.. i saw him and remembered him so clearly, because the lights were all switched on already..

we stood staring like that for a while... i couldnt remember what i felt at that time, but, i do know that, i was never afraid.. then, suddenly, he turned and walked away.. into the side of the building. i ran off across the lawn, towards the ketua aspuri (asrama puteri) room. i banged the door..

"kak su!! kak su!! bukak pintu..."

"ha.. nape V..ape kecoh2 nih.."

"kak su... ada... le...la..ki.... pen..ce...ro...boh.....be..la...kang... su...rau...."

i stuttered and stammered, while trying to piece together what just happened. i looked back. all my perfectly ironed clothes laid strewn on the ground. kak su quickly grabbed the public phone and called cikgu sufian, the chief warden. while she talked, i went to collect my clothes from the ground..

"V!! jgn pegi jauh.. tunggu sini!"

few minutes later, cikgu pian arrived in his car with cikgu ismail. he asked me so many questions.. we quickly went upstairs to my dorm, i just followed them.. my roomates were all confused. thanks ya Allah, no one is harmed..

cikgu pian told us that whomever that was, had already left..maybe into the thick bushes outside the fence. he told me not to worry, told us to go back to our sleep.. but its already past 4am.
and strange thing is.. again.. except kak su n people in my dorm, everybody else is still fast asleep..

i just sat on my bed.. my roomates are awake and now talking.. suddenly.. it was that feeling again. feeling like something bad is happening again. it felt like something just doesnt click. like.. a really bad energy just keep following me around.. i stepped out of the dorm into the corridor, to get some fresh air..

i looked down near the stairs, at the corner of the surau..

and there was that man again.. staring at me..

this time.. i did the unthinkable..

i run. i run straight after him. i jumped down the stairs.. running towards the man. wanting to catch him..

ok. now vaccines. negara2 maju dah berlumba2 beli vaksin. few days ago, den dgr kat radio, canada dah tempah berjuta2 dos vaksin utk h1n1. yg akan mencukupi untuk 75% rakyatnya. US pun dah start beli vaksin, and bnyk lagi european countries. fyi, any kind of influenza viruses are mostly feared by caucasians.

tp kat malaysia ni, dah start beli ke? ke baru nak berbincang2 tentang pembelian. aih.. sungguh tak terkata...

from karpetkuning, dia kata dah 32 cases of h1n1. casualty. i expect this yesterday. well, i expect it to be around 36 actually. easy. if u pernah blajar biochemical, its all about exponential spread. jangkitan penyakita, at this scale, will go exponentially. casualty versus time. or cases versus time. or in this case, any 'variables' atau 'pembolehubah' versus time. any people majoring in virology can tell u dat. unless you take out one of the bases, it will always go exponentially.

the casualty due to h1n1 could hae been avoided earlier if our government had exercise strict regulations with respect to variables or pembolehubah yg menyebabkan jangkitan ni merebak.
aih.. all those school, all those people who should have undergo quarantine for longer period of time... if only the government have done more, all these 32 casualties could then be avoided. (ok lah, u may say dah mmg taqdir diorang, watever...)

let me give u an example of how silly the regulations with respect to closing down a school. at our school, one of this lady teacher, suami dia kena suspect h1n1. so the husband kena quarantine dekat hospital. however, the wife, which is the teacher, cuma kena quarantine kat rumah. and surprisingly, the school carried on like usual. so, there is definitely something wrong with this.

ok. senario no 1.

if the husband is not infected, thank god, the wife is not infected, so the rest of the school is safe.

ok. senario no 2.

if the husband is infected, the wife is at high risk, and the whole effing school, kids aged 7-12 is at risk, including their families, including the teachers, and also all the families are at risk.

i asked the headmaster, how come this school tak kena tutup. clearly, we have someone inside the school who could have been infected, and at risk of infecting others. the headmaster jawab, belum kena infected, hanya suspected, and the pejabat pelajaran belum br directives (order)

i wanted to scream at his face, scream all the profanities, all the foul languages i have in my mind, but of course, al those shud only be spent here. aih.. i dunno how this cow brains people think, but consider this..

ok. senario 3.

the school closed for a week while waiting for the teacher's husband to get examined. wallaaaa.. the husband is not infected. so all people are at the moment safe. school resume like usual.

ok. senario 4.

the school closed for a week while waiting for the teacher's husband to get examined. alamak, the husband infected. kesian dia. but its ok, the school already closed. so all students shud have an extended 'holiday', to see who else got infected. (at this point, maybe the wife tak kena, so maybe, the closing down could be re-evaluated).

ok. senario 6.

so, which scenario would u consider if you have an ounce of brain?

i put it in mathematical order.

1. if u close down the school earlier, kebarangkalian untuk dpt infection h1n1 is 0%.
2. if u did not close down the school, kebarangkalian untuk dpt infection h1n1 is 100%.

i'll be quick this time. its all because i dont this its worth it to rant much about the s.o.b who run this country. im venting off. so beware. like usual, this contains crude language.

for a start, the stupid effing government should have ben more vigilant in its pursuit to reduce the local or global infection of h1n1. like, why dont u close down all the school in a district where h1n1 is now on rampage? what? u need hudnred of ppl to die first ka? aiyah. so stupid. no need to elaborate on dat.

secondly. BOLEH TAK BAGI FrEE FACE MASK TO PELAJAR SKOLAH HA? HOI PEMIMPIN 1MALAYSIA. U ALL ARE REALLY BUNCH OF ARSEHOLES. ok. dah tahu bnyk skolah yg kena, n budak2 kecik is at risk, could u at least distribute facemask for free? aiyah, sooooo bloody stupid n ignorant laaaaaa kementerian kesihatan dan kementerian pendidikan nih. u think semua budak skola ni dr keluarga kaya ka? bodoh nak mampus gamaknya yg memimpin negara nih.

n also, can the kementerian kesihatan bergerak dgn lebih cekap? u think pasang iklan kat tv enuff ke? haiyah. mangkuk so mangkuk. u need to go out there. we shud be more concern about the kids. budak2 ok? orang tua got higher immune capacity. tp budak2 is at risk. why dont the kementerian kesihatan epgi antar wakil ke sekolah2 n bg ceramah awareness? this is important. we need the kids to realise that h1n1 is really a threat. u think enuff ke takat cikgu skola bg nasihat. its important to instill fear/awareness at the highest order especially with kids so diorang leh jaga kebersihan etc.

n also, the kementerian pelajaran shud gives out warning to all pengusaha kantin skola n syarikat tender pembersihan skolah so dat they will raised their level of efficiency in cleanliness. gives order to all syarikat pembersihan to clean al public toilets! nih asik bg arahan general. mcm pahat dgn tukul. aiyah. idiots.

this is all about being practical. u knwo how malaysians are. semua kene ketuk baru nak gerak. so kerajaan nih, ketuk2 la rakyat hang. b4 dat, kerajaan, sila ketuk kepala anda. lembab.

terdahulu..

beberapa minggu lepas, den ada citer adik den, ekin, yg kena kuarantin kat sekolah sbb sekolah dia ada beberapa kes H1N1. Alhamdulillah, last week ekin balik rumah for the weekend, and she is fine. memula tu den ckp kat dia, kalau ada selsema ke demam2, jgn balik rumah. walaupun doc kata tak sakit. mana la tahu kan.. den larang dia balik. haha.. tp tegar jugak ekin nih. balik jugak dia. dia demam n batuk, sakit tekak, tp demam biasa la. bukan demam babi tu. sbb skrg ni musim jerebu yg teruk, mcm2 penyakit muncul.

terkemudian..

dua minggu lepas, jane demam n sakit2 badan gitu lepas dia balik dr training/kursus kat kk. masa dia training tu la kek H1N1 mengganas kat skola ekin. mula2 tu dia takde la kesah sgt. maybe demam biasa je kot. lepas 4-5 hari, demam n selsema batuk tak kebah2. den tak perasan sgt dia tak sehat, sbb maklum la, kuar sblm subuh, balik dah malam. ada satu hari tu, den balik dah agak lewat jugak. baru je pas mandi, ingat nak trus tido, tetiba mak ketuk bilik. suh teman jane g wad kecemasan. sbb takut demam dia mcm pelik je. tekejut jugak den. den tgk muka dia cam tak bermaya je. alamak.. masuk keta terus rempit beb. agak2 den la, tayar tu tak cecah jalanraya pon.

smpi2 je kat spital, register dulu kat reception. masa tu dah dekat kul 8pm. ni dah masuk waktu tido den nih. jane pon bg la details dia kat mamat reception (mr)

mr: sakit apa cik?

jane: sy demam2, dah 4 hari. sy ingat nak mintak buat saringan H1N1 sbb minggu lepas, sy baru balik dr kk, ada training kat sana. risau jugak kalau ada contact ngan virus tu.

mr: simptom yg mcm mana cik?

jane: demam2, sakit2 badan, kdng2 batuk..

mr: owh.. tu mungkin demam biasa saja.. kami tak buat saringan kalau simptom tak memenuhi seperti yang tertera disini....

(mr tu tunjuk la satu notis penerangan yg ada buat list simptom2 H1N1 yang dilekat kat belakang dia.. den yg tgh mengantuk n lalok2, trus baca senarai tu.. slowly, hilan mengantuk den..ada sesuatu yang tak kena nih. ataupun, mungkin ada seseorang yg nak kena nih. )

jane: sy dah demam skrg, ada la sebahagian dr simptom2 tu, jadi saya tak boleh buat saringan H1N1 la ya?

mr: pihak hospital tak buat saringan kalau simptom2 contohnya takde demam menggigil..

(oh shit. dont tell me mr nih is another stupid government servant jenis pahat dengan tukul. antara perkara dlm dunia nih yg den paling tak gemar adalah berurusan kat kaunter kerajaan dengan kakitangan kerajaan yang lembab, bendul dan menjengkelkan.)

nyle: wait.. maksud u, orang tu kena menggigil-gigil dulu baru datang hospital dan buat saringan?

mr: maksud sy, orang tu kena ada cukup simptom2 h1n1 baru pihak hospital buat saringan...

nyle: yeah i know, so apa yang u maksudkan, orang tu kena sakit teruk sampai demam menggigil-gigil baru pihak hospital nak buat saringan?

mr: errr.. sbb ramai yang dtg mengadu sakit demam dan selsema dan semua nya pun mintak buat saringan..

nyle: so maksud u, tak payah buat saringan kalau ada simptom yang biasa-biasa saja, kena tunggu smpi menggigil baru datang hospital? maksud u, pihak hospital malas nak layan kalau demam2 biasa?

mr: err.. mcm ni lah cik, sebelum ni, cik yang ni ada pergi melawat luar negara seperti yang terdapat dalam senarai ni?

nyle: what? dlm malaysia kan sudah ada penularan h1n1. kenapa pulak nak concern pasal jangkitan dari luar. dlm negara ni pun dah ribu kes h1n1.

mr: cik boleh tunggu kat ruangan menunggu.. sekejap lg sy panggil..

nyle: kat mana tempat menunggu. ni first time kitorang dtg unit kecemasan. (kih kih kih.. saje nak buli mamat tu..)

mr: err.. cik jalan je terus, nanti kat ujung tu ada ruang yg bnyk kerusi dan tv

(den nak tanya lg, yg bnyk tu kerusi ke tv, tp kang dia ingat den nak mengorat dia plak. hua hua hua..)

masa tu dah kul 8 lebih. den dah ngantok tahap mata berair2 nih. sekali sampai, takde org pun kat tempat menunggu tu. nasib baik. so takde la kena tunggu lama. tunggu punya tunggu, nak setgh jam, takde lg kena panggil. den dah la letih, ngantok. taklama pastu, mr tu dtg. dia kata tunggu kejap, doc tak sampai lagi..

kul 9.15, dah sejam lebih nih tunggu, den dah ngantok ya amat. ni kalau kira den nye biological clock, waktu mcm ni dah waktu arnab dah nih. mata den dah mcm arnab sungguh.

nyle: weh.. ngantok nya.. i'll wait in the car.. ape2 hal, call.

jane: ok...

den masuk je dlm keta, rebah kan seat, lock pintu, then.. krohh.. krohhh.. zzz...zzzz.... tak sempat der nak berangan2..

tgh den tido ngan nyenyak, tetiba bunyi tingkap keta kena ketuk. haa.. jane. dah kul 10.15pm. pergh.. dah dekat sejam beb den membuto dlm keta. hihi..

nyle: dah siap?
jane: huh. tak buat pun.
nyle: AIK. APASAL??
jane: doc tu dah panggil masuk. tetiba dia ckp, kalau pasal saringan H1N1, bukan dia yg buat. org lain yg kena buat. so dia suruh tunggu lg kat luar.
nyle: org mana plak ygbuat? org tu kat mana?
jane: entah. tunggu tp tak muncul2 pun org yg buat saringan tu. malas nak tunggu lg, buang masa jah.

(jane dah muka kelat. muka penat plus menyampah dgn hospital.)

kitorang balik je tanpa jane buat saringan. sbb den letih, den takde energy nak masuk balik hospital tu n cari mr tu lg. kitorang balik je dgn hampa. nasib baik jane takde ape2. rasanya la. heh.
